PADI Advanced Open Water
The PADI Advanced Open Water course is designed to build confidence and to expand your scuba skills in a series of Adventure Dives. With Cortez Expeditions you can try different specialties while gaining experience under the supervision of your PADI instructor. You log dives and develop capabilities as you find new ways to have fun with scuba diving.
Each Adventure Dive may be applied towards the first dive of the corresponding PADI Specialty Diver Course. If you’ve already taken a specialty diver course, ask your instructor if you’ve earned credit for an Adventure Dive. Your path towards Advanced Open Water begins with the Deep and Underwater Navigation Adventure Dives, followed by three more dives of your choice from PADI’s selection of Adventure Dives.
During your Deep Adventure Dive, you will learn to deal with the physiological effects and challenges of deeper scuba diving. The Underwater Navigation Adventure Dive refines your compass navigation skills and teaches you to navigate using kick-cycles, visual landmarks, and time as references.
The remaining Adventure Dives can be as varied as your interests – ranging from photography to buoyancy control to fish identification to exploring wrecks and everything in between. There is a wide variety of dives to chose from to suit your interests in the underwater world!
Sign up for Advanced Open Water Diver Online to get started immediately. The web-based system lets you learn about seven of the most popular Adventure Dives, including the required Deep and Underwater Navigation Adventure Dives. In addition, you can learn about the Boat, Night, Peak Performance Buoyancy, Underwater Naturalist, and Wreck Adventure Dives online. The program is self-paced and interactive, giving you access to an online version of the Adventures in Diving manual that will be completed under the direction of your PADI Instructor.
Beyond your basic scuba equipment, you’ll need a compass and dive knife/dive tool. You’ll also use specialized gear depending on the Adventure Dives you choose – but we will explain the equipment required for your chosen Adventure Dives and possibly suggest additional gear that would enhance the learning experience.
